12o (168 x 101 mm). (Title lightly soiled.) Contemporary tree calf (rebacked), edges gilt. FIRST EDITION of Lind's treatise describing the poor living conditions endured aboard ship by seamen during this period. Among his suggestions, he recommended better ventilation to prevent the spread of disease, as well other dietary improvements (see lot 619). Garrison-Morton 2151; Norman 1355.

Robert Prescott (1725-1816), who served at Rochefort in 1757, at Louisburg in 1758, and at Martinique in 1761, he was involved in several actions in the American Revolutionary War, and was made Governor of Canada in 1796 (bookplate and signature). FIRST EDITION of "Lind's last major work, written for the use of travellers and emigrants to tropical countries; it remained the standard work in English on tropical medicine for half a century" (Norman).
