FIRST EDITION, of one of the most beautifully illustrated medical texts. At the age of 22 Mascagni was appointed professor of anatomy at the University of Siena, and later at Pisa and Florence. "Mascagni made several notable discoveries concerning the lymphatics, and this work contains his contribution with reference to the diapedesis of the corpuscles through the wall of the blood vessels in areas of inflammation" (Heirs of Hippocrates). FIRST EDITION. "Mascagni wrote this prologue to his Vasorum lymphaticorum corporis humani historia to assure the French Academy of the priority of his discoveries and to announce the fourthcoming publication of Vasorum, which he intended to submit for the prize being offered by the Academy to anyone who could determine and demonstrate the system of the lymphatic vessels.
