Titlepage in red and black with engraved vignette emblem of the Accademia della Crusca, full-page engraved portrait of Redi by Adrianus Hallvech after Justus Supterman (dated 1673), page of errata at end of text, 26 numbered engraved plates, two folding (lacking half-title, a single minute wormhole to blank lower margins in first half of book, dampstain to upper outer corners of last 10 plates). Contemporary vellum, edges speckled red and brown. Provenance: Gianlorenzo Graziani, early inscription on title.

FIRST EDITION, A THICK-PAPER COPY WITH THE RARE ADDED PORTRAIT. This copy bulks 30mm. while the second Norman copy (preceding lot, a presentation from Redi), bulks only 20 mm.; watermarks in both copies are indistinct.
