Engraved title, engraved portrait of the author by Jeremiah Falck and 117 engraved plates (including one half page illustration in text. 87 of the plates had originally been engraved for Casserio by Joseph Maurer, another 20 were engraved by Valesio and Fialetti for Daniel Bucretius). Modern panelled calf antique.

FIRST COLLECTED EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, with a 10-line inscription by Johannes vander Linden to D. Joachim d'Andre. Most of the fine plates derive from those which Julius Casserius (who preceded Spiegel in the chair of anatomy at Padua) had had prepared by the German draftsman/engraver Joseph Maurer to illustrate his unpublished Theatrum anatomicum. Other plates were prepared by Valesio and Fialetti. "Casserius's plates mark a new epoch in the history of anatomic representation, owing to the correctness of their anatomic drawing, their tasteful arrangement, and the beauty of their technical execution" (Choulant). In addition to five of Spiegel's works, this edition contain's: Gaspare Aselli, De lactibus; Johannes de Waal, Epistolae duae, de motu chyli & sanguinis; Johannes vander Linden, De monstrosis vermibus, observatio rara; William Harvey, De motu cordis.
