TWO MEISSEN QUATREFOIL SMALL TUREENS AND COVER
Circa 1760, blue crossed swords marks
Each with ozier-moulded band below the gilt rim, painted in muted colours with deutsche Blumen, and with a replacement cover for one tureen, 6.3/8in. (16.2cm.) wide; together with two Meissen reticulated dessert plates, each center paintly painted with flowers reserved within a rocaille-moulded quatrefoil cartouche on the white ozier-moulded ground, the border with forget-me-nots at the joins of pierced trellis and with rocaille cartouches pierced and painted with bouquets within a pierced gilt line rim, 9in. (24.8cm.) diam. (4)

Cf. Anon. sale, Christie's, London, 6 March 1995, lot 180 for a Meissen two-handled basket dated circa 1750 and reticulated in the same pattern as the present plates but with puce flowerheads at the joins of the trellis. The plates are similar in date.
