Lot Essay
In 1961 Edward Quinn and Roland Penrose commissioned Picasso to produce ten drawings as designs for the front and back covers of their book Picasso l'oeuvre, un tude photographique intime. The authors chose two drawings which were used when the book was published in Paris, 1965. The present drawing is one of the eight remaining designs which had remained in the artist's collection until about 1970. See also the following lot.
