Lot Essay

cf. Alastair Duncan, Art Nouveau and Art Deco Lighting, 1978, p. 58, pl. xx for an illustration of a pair of lamps of this model.

This model formed part of Lonard's Jeu de l'charpe series, a series of ten dancers. These were originally produced in biscuit by Svres and Susse Freres purchased the right to manufacture them in bronze. Of the ten dancers, only two are wired for electricity as table lamps, with the bulbs hidden in the folds of their billowing scarves.
