manuscript on paper, 15ll. of black naskh, gold roundels between verses, gold margin between black rules, red outer rule, illuminated marginal medallions marking the divisions of text, suras marked by gold panels, opening bifolio illuminated in gold and colours, final folio with colophon, Ottoman, signed by 'Abdullah known as Hilmi, a pupil of Muhammad al-Latif and dated AH 1277/1860-1 AD, brown morocco binding and flap with gold stamped medallion pendants and spandrels - 35.8 x 25cm.

Lot Essay

An Ottoman Qur'an signed by the present scribe's teacher, Muhammad al-Latif, himself a pupil of Muhammad Shakir Effendi, katib al-sarai al-sultani, and dated AH 1248/1832-2 AD was sold at Christie's King Street Rooms, 27 April 1993, lot 42.
