A fine album complete with 128 cartes-de-visite inserted beneath gilt-edged card mounts on plain paper leaves, 108 signed and many dated by sitters on mounts, the majority of photographers identified in pencil in a later hand on mounts, library bookplate on front free end page, diced tan morocco, ruled gilt, applied gilt monogram V de W on front cover, elaborate gilt clasps, g.e., 4to.

An unusually complete and well-presented society portrait album, compiled by a member of the Van der Weyer family in 1862, with thirty-four cartes by Silvy and others by leading international portrait photographers including Brady, Hennah & Kent, Charles Watkins, Hills & Saunders, Thomas Rodger, Bingham (Paris), T.R. Williams, Vernon Heath, McLean, Melhuish & Haes, Abdullah Frères, Sarony, Disdéri, Mayall, Maull & Polyblank, Ghémar Frères, Kilburn, Caldesi, Blandford & Co., Mayer & Pierson, Jabez Hughes, D. Fredericks & Co., Joubert and others. Sitters, mainly British aristocracy, include members of the Stonor family, Lord and Lady Overstone, the Duke and Duchess of Roxburgh, Lord and Lady Taunton, the Duke of Westminster, Lord and Lady Clarendon, members of the Robeson, Suttie and Lister families and others, many identified as having visited New Lodge, Ascot. Other locations listed include Floors Castle and Langleybury.
