Three albums containing a total of over 300 carte-de-visite photographs, a few hand-tinted: the first with 152 portraits mounted four-per-page in pre-cut arched-top or oval window mounts with gilt borders, the majority titled in ink in a contemporary hand beneath images, later additions in pencil, tan morocco, raised pattern in blind, two clasps (both missing), g.e., 4to.; the others with captions in pencil in a later hand, one with black and red cloisonnée enamel front cover, central panel for owner's name left blank, back cover in black lacquer, both covers trimmed in gilt metal, two gilt clasps (re-lined and with new morocco spine), g.e., oblong 8vo.; the last in brown morocco, gilt, gilt clasp, g.e., oblong 8vo.; with nine loose cabinet portraits and nineteen loose cartes. A good survey of military leaders and officers, several in uniform, including Generals Sir James Scarlet, Sir Thomas Peel, Lord Paget, Sir David Edward Wood V.C., the Duke of Manchester, Sir James Simpson, Sir William Codrington, Baron Sandhurst, Baron Rokeby, Baron Seaton, Lord Airey, Sir James Hope Grant and others, some accompanied by portraits of their wives, Lieutenant Generals, Major Generals, other officers and associated personnel including army chaplains, doctors and two of the small sons of General Mansfield with their Hindu and Parsee attendants.
