Album containing 198 cartes-de-visite, seven hand-tinted, a few autographed, several inscribed and the majority with photographers' printed credits on mounts or on verso, loosely inserted in pre-cut window mounts with decorative embossed borders, the majority identified in pencil in a later hand on mounts, wood boards with marquetry pattern, the front cover depicting a couple with a donkey and the back cover with a couple dancing, each cover with wood bosses (some bosses lacking, covers cracked and chipped), two gilt clasps, g.e., lge. 4to.; with four carbon print portraits loosely inserted. Including three portraits of Sarah Bernhardt (one autographed on recto), four of the French tragedienne, Elizabeth Félix Rachel, the Coquelin brothers and the French romantic actor, Antoine (known as Frederick) Lemaitre.
