Album containing ninety-five cartes-de-visite and twelve cabinet cards, occasional numbers in the negatives, one dated March 1864 in ink and with typescript label My grandmother Jessie Carrick taken by her photographer brother William with her fiancé Francis Forbes, the year before their marriage in St. Petersburg and the majority with photographer's credit on mounts, loosely inserted in pre-cut window mounts with gilt borders, thermo-plastic boards framed by wood, the front cover depicting Ceres and Mercury supporting a blank heraldic shield within decorative reeded border (new morocco spine), white metal clasp, g.e., 4to.; with one duplicate cabinet card loosely inserted. An extensive collection comprising costume studies, portraits of wood-choppers; sellers of baskets, bread, abaci, woollen mittens and hats; a brick-layer, men drinking tea, a musician, a chimney-sweep and house-sweeper, priests, group portraits of women and their children, water-carriers, a seed-sower, men in uniform, and two images of a horse and sled.
