Concertina album containing ninety-four albumen prints, two hand-tinted, the majority approx. 4 x 5½ in. or the reverse, eleven approx. 8½ x 11 in. including one seven-part panorama and one two-part panorama, mounted one or four-per-page, black lacquer boards, ivory and gilt onlay, the front cover depicting a woman being pulled through a Japanese landscape in a rickshaw with the wind god blowing down and another man chasing his hat, the back cover with insects and flowers, 11 x 14 in.

Lot Essay

A seven-part panoramic harbour view; a two-part panoramic image of westerners and natives gathered together with horses in front of a bungalow at the bottom of a hill; several costume studies of men and women in traditional dress; men in court costume, portraits of priests and a portrait of women smoking long pipes.
