Farsari & Co...Yokohama, titled Japan in gilt on leather spine (part lacking, front and back cover loose), black lacquer boards, gilt onlay depicting Japanese fans on front cover and insects on back cover, g.e., oblong 4to.

Lot Essay

Views include Fujiyama, garden scenes, a snowy street scene, temple studies, villages, and bridges; portraits of Japanese musicians, women in travelling chairs, eating, sleeping, a group portrait of men dressed in straw coats and hats titled 'Pilgrims to Fuji', wrestlers in an outdoor ring, a portrait of a 'betto', women carrying their children on their backs, buddhist priests and a portrait of a samurai. Some of these portraits are from negatives by Beato.
