Lartigue remembers how he was struck by the beauty of Renée Perle, a model at Doeillet, who was to become his mistress for a short period from 1930-32. "She is beautiful. The small mouth with the full painted lips! The ebony black eyes!... Renée! She is tender, devoted, passionate...Renée is beautiful; she is tender; she is everything I desire. I live in a dream". (See Lartigue, Diary of a Century)
