Matt gelatin silver print, 14¾ x 11.7/8 in., flush-mounted on brown card; with three matt gelatin silver prints, 5¾ x 10 in., 11½ x 9½ in. and 14 x 18¼ in., two mounted at top corners on card, both signed and one titled Moonlight over the Thames Basin in pencil on mount, the third flush-mounted on card, titled Wet Saturday Night and inscribed By Ed. Orton in ink on verso. (4)

Lot Essay

Born near Colwyn Bay, Orton became involved with photography as a stills cameraman in the film industry. He worked at Gainsborough Studios and then at Ealing before moving to Hollywood after serving in the Royal Navy Film Unit Section during the war. During his career up to 1973 he worked on many of the great films and television series with a variety of stars including Diana Rigg, Syd James, Richard Attenborough and Bob Hope.
