Lot Essay

The barque James Cruickshank was built for Cruickshank and Popplewell on the Thames in 1827. Registered at 320 tons, she measured 104 feet in length with a 26 foot beam and originally traded to various ports. By 1840 she was sailing regularly from London to the West Indies and by 1850 she was running to Australia. Sold in the mid-1850's she changed her home port to Shields and thereafter traded to the Mediterranean until last recorded in the late 1860's.
