In the neo-classical style, the marmo nero top of shaped and concave-sided outline, above an egg-and-dart cornice surmounting a palmette frieze centred by a mask of Mercury, with shells to either angle, the rectangular back support decorated with a simulated lapis lazuli panel centred with further Mercury mask, flanked by side panels decorated with foliage and medallions, on a plinth mounted with recumbent sphinxes, decoration refreshed, marble top replaced
