PRESENTATION COPY given by the author to Bellisario Bulgarini with an inscription on the last page in the latter's hand. Bulgarini (1539-1619), one of the end of the 16th century's most eminent Dante scholars, came from a good Sienese family and played an important part in that town's affairs, both literary and diplomatic.
