A Florentine loyal to the Medici, Antonfrancesco Grazzini (1503-84) was among the founders of the Accademia degli Umidi, and with Salviati established the Accademia della Crusca under the patronage of the prince. In both academies he was known as "Il Lasca" ("the Roach"), a pseudonym also used in his output of spirited novellas, comedies, burlesque poems and "capitoli". Gamba 537 "Rarissimo"; Parenti p. 277.
