(Lacking the 11-page index and one leaf of the list of subscribers in pt. III and one unnumbered plate in pt. VI, a few laminated repairs, some browning and light spotting.) Modern vellum, old blind-stamped covers and parts of old spine relaid, initials "G R V C", dated 1605, stamped in blind to front cover. Provenance: Andrea Mazza (old ownership inscription to first title, indicating the book was bought for 125 solidi).
FIRST EDITION of this work, rarely found complete in six parts. Brunet I, 1069: "Cette première édition, mieux imprimée et sur meilleur papier que la seconde, a encore l'avantage de contenir les premières épreuves"; Cicognara 3626; Olschki Choix 16478; Schudt 715 (does not call for an unnumbered plate in pt.
