This may be the young Raj Singh (1652-80); for another portrait similarly identified see: Sotheby's Persian and Indian Miniatures from the collection formed by the British Rail Pension Fund, 23 April 1996, lot 18. However the portrait also bears some ressemblance to Amar Singh (1672-1710); for portraits of him as an older man, see: Christie's King Street, 21 July 1971, lot 146 and Spink, The Sublime Image, London 1997, no. 8
