Lot Essay

The sitters were members of the Scott family of Thorpe House, near Chertsey in Surrey, which was built around 1735. Mary Scott was the daughter of Sir Edward Blackett, 4th Bt., who was M.P for Northumberland from 1768 to 1774. In 1820 her daughter Patience married the Hon. William Dawson in Rome.
