Lot Essay

In 1849 Callow made a sketching tour in the most of Scotland. He arrived at Glasgow while Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were there, and he proceeded to the kyles of Bute and Inverary, where Callow and his wife stayed for a month, 'In the most private but comfortable quarters; being waited upon by a maid without shoes or stockings'.
