In the 1898-99 Scottish Cup final played at Second Hampden on 22nd April 1899 before 25,000 spectators, Celtic defeated Rangers 2-0.
Alexander King was born on 27th July 1871 and joined Airdrie in March of 1893. Thereafter, there were periods with Albion Rovers, Wishaw Thistle, Darwen, Dykehead, Rangers (trial), and Hearts before joining Celtic on 6th May 1896. He played a total of 62 games for Celtic scoring 12 goals before joining Dykehead in September 1900. He retired from playing in 1905 and Celtic played Rangers in a benefit match for him that year. King played for Scotland at full International level on six occasions and made four appearances for the Scottish League. He also won a Scottish Cup winner's medal with Hearts in 1896 when they defeated Hibernian 3-1.
