The 1970 World Cup Final Tournament took place in Mexico from 31st May to 21st June and will forever be remembered for the scintillating football played by the eventual winners Brazil. In their Group 3 matches, they defeated England 1-0; Romania 3-2 and Czechoslovakia 4-1, thereby setting up a quarter-final match with Peru played at Jalisco, Guadalajara on 14th June 1970 before 54,000 spectators. Brazil defeated Peru 4-2 with goals by Rivelino, Tostao (2) and Jairzinho. The semi-final took place at the same stadium on 17th June before 51,000 spectators and Brazil disposed of Uruguay 3-1 with goals by Clodoaldo, Jairzinho and Rivelino. In the final played at the Azteca Stadium, Mexico City on 21st June before 107,000 spectators, Brazil produced their best football of the tournament in defeating Italy 4-1 with goals by Pele, Jerson, Jairzinho and Carlos Alberto.
