An oviform vase
with flaring neck and moulded lion mask handles, painted and gilt to one side with a docile tiger seated on a riverbank in a bamboo grove, the reverse with ferocious tiger clambering on rockwork beside a stream and further bamboo, all on a ground of scattered chrysanthemum sprays and within geometric pattern borders, pierced gilt metal rim and base supported by four elephant heads -- 19in. (48.2cm.) high overall, (glaze crackled, some overall wear).
