A ROCKINGHAM FIGURE OF A JEWISH PEDDLER
Circa 1820.
Wearing a black brimmed hat, gilt-edged iron-red coat and pale salmon breeches, a green sack slung over his right shoulder, two top hats stacked in his left arm, standing before a tethering post, on waisted circular base, 4in. (12cm.) high; together with an English stoneware figure of a Jewish peddler, first half of the 19th century, iron-red 29 to the underside, wearing iron-red coat, his right hand extended and with four coins in the palm, on rocaille-scroll moulded base, 6.7/8in. (17.5cm.) high; and two Staffordshire examples of the same models, both peddlers wearing yellow hats and cobalt blue coats edged in gilt, 7in. (19.7cm.) high. (4)
