The members of the Croisière Noire expedition followed the Niger Rever, from Bourem to Niamey, in November 1924. For Georges-Marie Haardt and Louis Audouin-Dubreuil (La Croisière noire, Paris, Librairie Plon, 1927), this 'sparkling river, a vast gold flow between two green banks' marked the point where Black Africa began.
