The Queen of Madagascar in ceremonial dress 'La Reine de Madagascar en tenue d'apparat'

Queen Ranavolona III came to the throne in 1883 at the age of eighteen. When Madagascar became a French protectorate in 1895, she signed a peace treaty but, in 1897, was sent in exile to Reunion. Two years later, she was transferred to Algiers, where she died in 1917.
