AN EDWARDIAN SILVER-GILT RICH PATTERN DESSERT-SERVICE
Maker's mark of Francis Higgins, London, 1904
Comprising eighteen of: dessert knives, forks and spoons, each handle cast with figure of Venus with up stretched arms within openwork hourglass frame, below applied mask, and paired putti, the knife handles not openwork, the blades part engraved with foliate scrolls, in wood case front with lock, interior lined in red felt, with two detachable fitted trays, the hinged cover inset with two brass hearts, one engraved Natalie Wells 1905 the other smaller engraved Adele from Jack Christmas '49--the knives--8in. (22.2cm.) long, the forks and spoons--83oz.; the knives--43oz.; total weight--126oz. (72)
