Lot Essay

One of the most characteristic pieces of Bruges baroque furniture is the small buffet, carved with vivid biblical scenes in the uppersection and with an intricate geometrically-carved base. A number of related buffets, in the `Sint-Janhospitaal' and the `Gruuthusemuseum' in Bruges are illustrated in V. Vermeersch, Het oudvlaams meubel, Bruges, 1991, pp. 42-43.
