Lot Essay

The Antwerp painter Ommeganck was among the most famous landscape painters of his time. He enjoyed the patronage of the Empress Josephine who bought a new painting from him each year. His skills in rendering cattle and sheep earned him the epithet "le Raphaël des Moutons".
