Lot Essay

Firmin was born in Sint-Joost-ten-Noode, the son of the decorative artist Henri Baes who was director of the School voor Sierkunsten in Brussels. He studied at the Academy of Brussels with Léon Frédéric and became especially renowned as pastellist.
