Lot Essay

Edme-Charles de Lioux de Savignac (fl. 1764-1789) was renowned for his gouache miniatures in the manner of the van Blarenberghes whose pupil he probably was (Leo R. Schidlof, La miniature en Europe, Graz, 1964, I, p. 523).
For other boxes by Vachette, see lots 38 and 67.
