Rectangular box, the cover, sides and base cast and chased in four-colour gold with architectural designs of princely pavillions with exotic birds, on deeply incised engraved sunburst grounds, framed by reeded c-scrolls, the cover panel sliding to the right in order to disclose a secret compartment

Lot Essay

Louis-Guillaume Cassé was apprenticed to François Marteau, orfèvre du Roi. A brother of the goldsmith André-Louis Cassé, he struck his mark in 1751 and became the master of Louis and Charles Ouizille. He died in 1768.
