Rectangular box with canted corners, the cover painted with a view of Wilhelmshöhe Castle of Kassel, with the Herkulesberg to the left, within an enamelled and paillon-set border, the front and rear sides and base enamelled in translucent blue on a wavy engine-turned ground simulating moiré, the left and right hand sides of burnished gold, the corners decorated with vases and scrolls in gold and colour paillons on a translucent blue enamel ground
