The smaller needle-case Belgian, slightly tapering and flattened, both obverse and reverse engraved with a latticework pattern, shields and vases, plain sides, shaped top and base; the larger needle-case French, slightly tapering and of even octagonal section, of burnished red gold, the borders of cover and base set with laurel bands in green gold on a matted ground, plain base matrix and domed top adorned with eight rosettes on frosted grounds, the sealing-wax case slightly tapering, of flattened cylindrical section, of polished gold, the borders of cover and base set with twisted gold ropes and engraved with wavy reeding, plain base and domed top
