Geneva, circa 1780, maker's mark initials M&I with coronet above and crescent below
Oval box, the cover set with an oval enamel miniature of the Sacrifice to Pan, on a pink opalescent guilloché enamel panel decorated with vermiculé, the matted gold borders with simulated enamel pearls divided by green enamelled laurel, the similar side panels divided by green and pink enamelled urns, with similar vermiculé base
68 mm. (2 5/8 in.) wide

The miniature is taken from a print published in 1776, by W. W. Ryland after Angelica Kauffman's painting in the collection of Hugh Smythyson, 1st Duke of Northumberland, illustrated in W. W.
