Oval box, the lid enamelled with an oval scene on an opalescent pink ground depicting Theseus abandoning desperate Ariadne on the Isle of Naxos, bordered by a band of blue paillons on a dark blue enamelled ground, within a split-pearl border, the four side panels enamelled in translucent dark blue on a wavy engine-turned ground simulating moiré and with blue, green and gold paillons depicting foliate swags and urns, the four side pilasters fired with vases, scrolls and birds in gold and colour paillons on a translucent blue enamel ground
