Works by this talented goldsmith who used to number his output are rare; one enamelled sealing wax case by his hand is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Two other gold boxes by Croze of 1778/1779 have been on the market, one numbered 235 (Sotheby's, Geneva, 17 May 1994, lot 79) and the other numbered 240 (Sotheby's, Monaco, 4 May 1977, lot 132).
