Bernard Aikema kindly pointed out that this drawing is by the same hand as the group of twelve attributed to Lorenzo Tiepolo in the Fogg Art Museum, Cambridge, B. Aikema, Tiepolo and His Circle, Drawings in American Collections, exhib. cat., New York, the Pierpont Morgan Library and elsewhere, 1997, no. 155.
Bernard Aikema mentions that each of Lorenzo's drawings in the Fogg has its counterpart in the third sketchbook at Wrzburg. The Wrzburg sheets are of a lesser quality than those at the Fogg and the present one, and it is possible that either the former sheets are copies after the latter, or that they both have a common source, possibly Giambattista's drawings. The counterpart of the present drawing in the third album is catalogued by C. Thiem, Ein Zeichnungsalbum der Tiepolo in Wrzburg, Munich, 1996, no. 28.
We are grateful to Bernard Aikema for his help in preparing this entry.
