Lot Essay

Part of the original set of portraits which Carmontelle executed at the court of the Duc d'Orléans. Later he made replicas of these portraits for important members of the court on request. The collection remained intact until the Duc d'Aumale acquired them for the Musée Condé at Chantilly from Gordon Duff.
