On a later shaped wooden plinth, with an old label underneath inscribed 'EXHIBITION/Reg. No..1..../ITALIAN ART.'
Minor cracks; drill-hole on the back; the ends of three legs and the tail replaced.

This lion is closely related to a model which is normally seen in bronze, one version of which Charles Avery has recently attributed to Tiziano Aspetti (Avery, loc. cit.).
