Lot Essay

A closely related pair of corner-cabinets, almost certainly supplied to William, 1st Marquess of Lansdowne (d. 1805) for Lansdowne House, Piccadilly, are now at Bowood House, Wiltshire. Possibly supplied under the direction of the architect George Dance (d. 1825), the latter were probably conceived to harmonise with the Lansdowne House chairs (lot 71).
