This elegant writing-table with re-entrant corners and Grecian-scroll 'claw' foot, relates to Gillow's design for a 'spindle table', illustrated in the Estimate Sketch Book of 1818 (G. Wills, Craftsmen and Cabinet-Makers of Classic English Furniture, London, 1974, p.123). A related mahogany table with brass-banding, was sold by the late Pamela Harriman, Sotheby's New York, 19-21 May 1997, lot 937.
