A French gilt composition swept frame in the Louis XV style, mounted in a shadow box, with scallop shells and scrolling foliage at the corners and centres of the egg-and-spool outer edge; outer scotia; the pierced corners and centres of the raised astragal with stylised scallop shells and fleur-de-lys reposing on scrolling foliage, flanked by flower heads running on a cross-hatched ground; astragal; recessed sanded band; ogee moulding with foliage on a hatched ground; cavetto at sight edge - 7¾ x 5.3/8 x 4¼ in. (19.7 x 13.7 x 10.8 cm.) - the shadow box covered with scarlet velvet to its inside - 21¼ x 18¾ in. (54 x 47.8 cm.)
