ARTISTS Faced with marketing problems advertising directors of studios would sometimes turn to better known out-of-house artists to give the posters distinction and prestige. These, in most cases, were alternative posters that accompanied the more conventional styles, i.e., Norman Rockwells style B poster for The Razors Edge (lot 266), or James Montgomery Flagg's advance poster for Lost Horizon, (lot 269). Only a handful of any of these posters survive today, prsumably cinemas were less eager to order and display what may have looked unconventional. Some of the best examples of these posters are on offer here.
