Of large flattened spade shape, carved in a continuous scene through the black lacquer with a central peony spray to each side amidst smaller flower sprays of daisy and prunus, all on a red lacquer diaper-cell ground between lappets at the shoulder and foot, stopper

Lot Essay

It is more rare in lacquer bottles to find the black upper level on a red ground rather than red on black or red along.
The peony is flower of prosperity.
