Northeastern India, Bihar, Pala Period, 10th Century
Carved in three registers over an elaborately scrolled base, connected by kirttimukha masks and surmounted by a lotus motif, the Buddha standing in a niche at bottom with his right hand in abhaya mudra, three Buddhas sitting in recessed niches at top with the central Buddha's hands in dharmachakra mudra

The quality of carving is exceptional with subtle modeling contrasting with crisply delineated ornaments, originally forming part of a running frieze.
